However, the case with hypothyroidism is more complicated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In developed countries, most people obtain the necessary support from their normal diets for thyroid function. Iodine is an important mineral for this gland, which is why it is added to most table salt and other sodium sources. Plus, foods like soybeans contain loads of it. Given the amount of salt in modern diets, most people do not need to add iodine-rich foods or iodine supplements to their diet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In fact, even those with hypothyroidism shouldn\u2019t do this because getting too much iodine could lead to hyperthyroidism or an overactive thyroid gland.
